Halff prepared the City of Richardson’s first official Active Transportation Plan, building on the City’s recognized success in investing in bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.
This inaugural plan provides Richardson with a centralized work program for eliminating barriers to active transportation in the community while serving as a blueprint for creating a walking, biking and rolling culture throughout the community. The active transportation planning process included multiple online and in-person tools to identify residents’ most pressing bicycling and walking needs, and includes model design concepts for overcoming common but significant barriers to active mobility throughout Richardson.
Halff collaborated with the City to develop a plan that satisfied the client’s desired needs, while providing pathways to silver Bicycle-friendly Community status and designation as a Pedestrian-friendly Community. Along with Halff’s transportation planning services, Lee Engineering provided model design concepts and Toole Design Group provided transportation systems assessments. Through this plan, Halff’s active transportation solutions addressed issues that are unique to built-out communities, while also encouraging people to use these facilities. By doing so, we are expanding the accessibility for Richardson’s residents to the transportation network and improving community-wide mobility for all ages and abilities.
